    We are interested only in fine artists and photographers who already have a collection of work to serve as the basis of an art licensing program.

    We require that the Artist have professional quality digital scans of all artwork in the licensing collection @ 300 ppi x the artwork dimensions. Photographers must have medium format or professional quality (15MP or better) digital files.

    Artists must be aware of current trends, colors and subjects in the home décor market. Home décor is a vital licensing market in itself, but more importantly home décor trends drive many other markets, since these products are widely seen in retail outlets such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, Crate and Barrel, Walmart (yes, Walmart), and in fine furniture stores.

    I just finished a conversation with an artist who was interested in licensing his work.

    His art is good…

    But we already represent several artists with excellent art, and maybe 25% of them have not been productive for us.

    Seems that their art is not suited for licensing, except maybe for prints – and there is too much good art chasing too few opportunities in the print market.

    Questions for the artist:

    • are you aware of market trends in terms of popular and forecasted colors?
    • are you aware of market trends in terms of subject-matter?
    • are you aware of market trends in terms of products that rely heavily on licensed art?
    • do you look at products (when shopping, for example) and think, “my art could work there”?

    It is clear that if you are defining your marketing success, then it is about money.
