artists’ perspective: The practical usefulness of strategic marketing may not be obvious to the artist. There are a large variety of models for marketing planning and most available planning tools are targeted to corporations and large businesses and do not contain useful information for selling art, artist’s promotion. Same is true for any small business (do an internet search on the term: “marketing planning” to get an idea of what’s out there).
marketing, business perspective: marketing planning can help an artist same way as map can help a traveler. Do not overcomplicate planning: distill arcane corporate “business-speak” jargon into a model that is workable for marketing of your art. It’s really quite simple; define a goal, determine where you are now relative to the goal, and list the things you need to do to get there. Marketing planning will help you understand where are you now in terms of your business what is your point of destination in your art business, which is the road to your next point business and which marketing tools you need in your entrepreneurial journey.
