More about Artist Qualifications for Art Licensing

Artist Qualifications [adds to prior post]

[] Provide a link to an internet site where your artwork can be seen; and, for heaven’s sake present your art in a professional manner. A key indicator for qualification is whether or not the artist can work comfortably in today’s digital universe; our selection factors include the artist’s web site, and how the artwork is presented.

[] Show only your best and freshest art. We need to see about 24 to 100 images from your web portfolio

[] Check artvisions.com website to see what kind of art we currently display. If your art doesn’t fit, then don’t apply.

[] We are looking for more painterly work. We are always looking for well executed floral designs.
Today’s challenge is to find the artist who can put a new creative twist on floral art. The artist who can do this well is tomorrow’s best seller. Source-unknown

Are You Ready to License Your Art?

No responses

ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS [from www.artvisions.com]

We are interested only in fine artists and photographers who already have a collection of work to serve as the basis of an art licensing program.

We require that the Artist have professional quality digital scans of all artwork in the licensing collection @ 300 ppi x the artwork dimensions. Photographers must have medium format or professional quality (15MP or better) digital files.

Artists must be aware of current trends, colors and subjects in the home décor market. Home décor is a vital licensing market in itself, but more importantly home décor trends drive many other markets, since these products are widely seen in retail outlets such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, Crate and Barrel, Walmart (yes, Walmart), and in fine furniture stores.

What Was He Thinking!?!

No responses

I just finished a conversation with an artist who was interested in licensing his work.

His art is good…

But we already represent several artists with excellent art, and maybe 25% of them have not been productive for us.

Seems that their art is not suited for licensing, except maybe for prints – and there is too much good art chasing too few opportunities in the print market.

Questions for the artist:

  • are you aware of market trends in terms of popular and forecasted colors?
  • are you aware of market trends in terms of subject-matter?
  • are you aware of market trends in terms of products that rely heavily on licensed art?
  • do you look at products (when shopping, for example) and think, “my art could work there”?

Making Art For Money

1 response

What is success in art? Is it fame? Is it artistic satisfaction? Is it the sense of fulfillment? Is it even correct to consider success in art?

It is clear that if you are defining your marketing success, then it is about money. The business dimension of your art activities can be calculated and measured numerically; your measure of success is based upon the money you made from selling your art. Art business success should be separated and kept apart from artistic success. The topic of this discussion is success in the art market.

There are many aspects to consider before entering the art market, but the fundamental choice you have to make is between making art for money versus making money from art, and / or finding a middle ground between these two.

Unique Selling Proposition

No responses

ArtBizBuzlet – USP: the difference is you

Unique Selling Proposition (USP): it is not necessarily that your art that needs to be different; just as important is the way that you present it, and your qualities that make you stand out from your competition.

ArtBizBuzlet – USP: honest and true benefit

Your USP has to convey an honest and true benefit. – (paraphrase) Lynda Resnick on Charlie Rose

Some Good Artists May Need Help

No responses

It has been said that there are more people making art than are buying art. That means that visibility is crucial if artists want their work to be seen by buyers.

The visibility problem is worse for some very good artists who may not be not savvy about the business of art, or who simply lack an essential bit of knowledge about internet art marketing. As a result, these artists are not able to successfully promote themselves or their art.

Some artists intuitively know that they want more from their art, but may need help in order to verbalize, organize or categorize their wants.
